Last week we were lucky enough to be invited along to an event being held at Build A Bear Workshop in Yas Mall by Jumana one of the founders of The Happy Box, who were celebrating partnering with the brand
I was really excited to go (definitely more so than my 4 month old and double definitely more than Hubs, that’s for sure!) as I’ve always wanted to pick my own outfit for a bear, I mean come on which girl hasn’t right? Build A Bear is an absolute treasure trove of anything you can think of to dress a bear up in! Seriously, these bears are better dressed than me these days!!
The store was fit to burst with excited kiddies being entertained by the wonderful staff who helped them to choose their bears, stuff them in the Willy Wonka style machine and even put hearts inside before sealing them up. Bubs had been a sleep but woke up to enjoy the excitement, even if he didn’t really know what was going on he was interested to see everything. The older kids were certainly having a whale of a time, it was a real pleasure to see them so enthralled in their tasks.
We sampled some rather naughty cake pops and brownies from Sugar Moo, which is soon to open in the mall, divine!
I got a chance to catch up with Jumana who told me all about how she joined forces back in 2014 with her Sister-in-Law Linda to create the concept. As busy working mums they noticed that they had little time to arrange all the necessary items to do fun activities with their families, wouldn’t it be great if someone could do all the leg work for you, provide all the materials and off you go! So that’s exactly what they came up with. The Happy Box is delivered monthly, contains 8 activities along with a book, all the items required and instructions on how complete them, meaning all you have to do is get them out of the box and start having fun with your kids, no faffing, no shopping for supplies!
All the activities are designed to be fun, engaging and just the right amount of challenging, so they are great for helping children develop their cognitive and fine motor skills. You can sign up for 1, 3, 6 or 12 month packages and the more you buy the cheaper they get, you can find the pricing schedule here, I think it’s pretty reasonable since even the scissors are provided etc.
Jumana also explained that the company has a charitable arm of the business whereby they donate a Happy Box to a child in need for every box that’s purchased. So far they have given something back to society by distributing boxes in India, Jordan and the refugee camps to name but a few. I think this is pretty amazing, can you imagine how much joy one of these boxes can bring to a child in need, facing desperate times?!
I’ll certainly be considering this concept when we are at the right stage, for now we will simply be enjoying our Teddy Edward and shall return to pick our outfit when our baby can point out what he likes!
Thanks Happy Box and Build A Bear for being such fabulous hosts!
