You know how I always do a best dressed pick after one of these celebrity award thingamajigs? Well last nights Grammy’s was slim pickings my dear chums, slim pickings indeed! I am pretty sure you can picture what kind of face I’m pulling as I look through the pictures, it’s not dissimilar to the wincing, scrunched up pained expression you make when you stub your toe on that damned something or other! Yes really, it was that bad and don’t even get me started on Madonna’s look! OK, she’s 50 odd and looks absolutely amazing but why do we always have to see her backside? Come to think of it, why is it that these days we have to see women performing in what looks like a pair of those hideous old school gym knickers we had to wear for PE circa 1990 all the time? (oops! given my age away there!)
Even most of the guys couldn’t get it right, showing up in bizarrely patterned, ill fitting suits and clumpy shoes. Bad hair and make up seemed to be the order of the day (what was that? Iggy Azalea?) and those that did get it right were almost too boring to notice, their fashion choices seemed rather dull and safe for an event such as this but anyone that tried something a bit more out there just didn’t quite seem to pull it off!
Alas ’twas a difficult task indeed but here’s what I’ve managed to come up with
Haim! I just love these girls anyway! Here they are sporting the most natural of hair/make up looks and menswear, sooo bang on trend. All a bit 70’s al la Bianca Jagger, ever so slightly hippy but completely achingly cool.
Here’s my second favourite look
Ciara looks stunningly fierce in this Alexandre Vauthier Couture gown. Ok, so it’s ruffles but the slicked back hair, lack of any fussy accessories and high/low hem line means that this dress does not overpower the wearer or vice versa, unlike……..
Here’s Rihanna in Giambattista Valli, I so wanted to like this look, I’d fallen in love with the sketches all over Instagram and images from the Haute Couture show in Paris. In reality unfortunately, this rather puts me in mind of a little doll with a knitted dress that my Nana used to cover the spare loo roll (I think all Nana’s had one of those back in the day didn’t they?). Fair play to Rhianna though for trying something different from the cut out, sheer, knicker flashing yawn fest that clogged up this red carpet!!!
