The 72nd Golden Globes Awards took place in Los Angeles yesterday and the British contingent were out in full force. Representing the blokes were Benedict Cumberbatch who was looking dashing as always, his pregnant fiancée Sophie Hunter at his side and Eddie Redmayne who, having just married Hannah Bagshawe, had cut short his honeymoon to be in attendance, a good job as he walked away with the “Best Actor” award for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in the new movie “A Theory of Everything“. As for the women’s side of things the flag was being flown by the likes of Helen Mirren (looking ravishing in red Dolce Gabbana), Keira Knightley, Ruth Wilson, Sienna Miller and the girls from Downton, all of whom (Knightley aside) didn’t do too bad a job in the style department. Indeed, I wasn’t too enthralled with Keira’s Butterfly covered Chanel creation, I know she is pregnant but this looked rather like “Elizabeth Bennett” had gone a bit mad rolling in the meadows, during spring time! Still it wasn’t as bad as some and whilst Ms Knightley may not have won any style awards, Ruth Wilson and Joanne Froggatt’s talent was duly recognised with the pair receiving awards for their TV work in The Affair and Downton Abbey.
Award winners out of the way, I know deep down all you really want to know is who won in the style stakes, who stood out on the red carpet in a sea of designer glitz and glamour? Well, I couldn’t choose between these two….
Best Actress winner Amy, stood out for me for the colour choice of this Versace gown. There were so many same old same olds and aside from some pops of yellow and red here and there the overall palette for the evening was a little on the drab side. Not many could pull off this shade of blue but Amy nails it perfectly as it complements her pale skin and red hair beautifully. Elegant, timeless and sexy without slits up to there, Amy gives a master class in red carpet dressing right there. PERFECTION!
Diane Kruger rarely gets it wrong in my opinion and this sparkling silver Emilia Wickstead gown is no exception. The shimmer, the stunning silhouette, finished off with the understated hair and makeup is a superb combination in my book. I love it, just gorgeous!
Can’t wait for the next awards ceremony to see who ups their game!
Any nominations from your side? Best or Worst dressed?
