Despite having loads of things to write about I have been suffering from a distinct lack of inspiration lately, so I’ve decided to ease myself in with a couple of quick posts, just to get the ball rolling once more.
This week I was rather taken with Mrs. Pitt’s choice of outfit at the UK Premiere of her second directorial offering, Unbroken.Embed from Getty Images
Angelina was stunning in this classic cream Ralph and Russo design from their Spring 2014 couture collection, a simple pencil dress with intricate buttoned up back detail and a timeless cropped cape.
The label takes it’s name from the Aussie pairing of designer Tamara Ralph and CEO Michael Russo, based in London they appear to be increasingly in demand, most recently having been charged with creating the looks for Beyoncé’s “Mrs Carter’ world tour.
I personally think that Jolie gives a rather regal air here, reminiscent of old time movie star glamour and not too dissimilar from the conservative but wonderfully elegant style of royals such as Queen Rania of Jordan. The only thing that spoils it slightly for me are her tattoos, I know lots of people have them and even more love them, but I’m afraid I’m not a fan.
Aside from the dress! The film itself sounds interesting and definitely worth a watch, based on the book “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand (writer of “Seabiscuit”) it tells the epic story of the life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (played by British Actor Jack O’Connell, of Skins fame) who, along with two others, survives a near-fatal plane crash during WWII. They manage to stay alive, adrift on a raft for 47 days, only to then be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
The screenplay was rewritten by The Coen Brothers and Jolie also produces, so I’m expecting big things from this movie which is undoubtedly a tale of the resilience and strength of human beings in the face of immense adversity. Unfortunately, Louie Zamperini passed away this summer before the movie’s release, he was 97 years old! Wow, what a life, the stories he must have told and the lessons in life he must have given to those he encountered!
