Hello My Lovelies!
It’s been a wee while! I’ve found myself a tad caught up in this moving malarkey and getting everything sorted, but hopefully things are starting to settle down a bit now. It’s been a fairly hectic few weeks that have seen me doing many things like, getting back out on the roads (watch out!) and back into exercise, then undoing it all by discovering Tim Horton’s! I am ever so slightly obsessed with their Sour Cream Glazed Doughnuts, Mmmm so yummy!
In amongst all of this busyness I somehow managed to find out about a women’s networking group called “The Real Housewives of Abu Dhabi”. If you are an expat woman these groups can be a bit of a god send, an opportunity to try to meet some like minded ladies and attempt to make the beginnings of a social life for yourself in your new adopted country. They are also a great way to find out lot’s of useful information, that even in this day and age you just don’t find on the internet. Sharing experiences and having a chance to chat and vent some frustrations with other people who understand what you might be going through is invaluable and I find, somewhat therapeutic. So when I heard about this group and that they organised regular events I was chomping at the bit to attend one. Luckily for me they had just announced their March event, a collaboration with Palmer’s (Yes, they of the Cocoa Butter fame) taking the form of a Wellness Day it was to be held at the Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara. Always a sucker for 5 star luxuries and in need of some de-stressing time following our move, I invited myself along immediately! And I am so glad I did.
We were told to rock up wearing comfortable clothing, carrying a Yoga Mat and a water supply. This sounded right up my street and just what I needed after all of those trips to Tim’s! Upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely ladies behind the venture, given a name badge and entered into a raffle for a chance to wins lots of Palmer’s goodies! There were some delicious teas and a beautiful, healthy spread of fresh fruits, yogurts, crudités and wholesome nuts to snack on. We had a chance to have a quick natter with some of the other ladies attending or have a relaxing hand massage from one of the Palmer’s girls. We also got some goodies to take home and discount vouchers for the Anantara Spa, which I am sure is amazing, having stayed at their Maldives hotel.
We were split into two groups to attend yoga sessions, one focused on relaxation techniques and the other was a bit more of a vigorous workout. I especially loved the second session which was given by a wonderfully engaging lady called Rita, who holds classes at various locations in Dubai. Approaching 40, Rita looked about 20 and had the lithe body of a dancer, certainly a motivation to get serious with yoga and all things good for my wellbeing! I shall be trying to locate her classes immediately! In between the sessions we had another chance to socialise and the raffle was drawn. No prizes here, but then my bag was already overloaded with the freebies anyway.
Before I knew it the morning was over, time flies when you’re having fun and all that! I met some lovely ladies, learned some tips for combating the stresses we are all exposed to in these hectic times and even sipped on some seriously tasty Beetroot juice. I left feeling confident, empowered and with a spring in my step which, I am sure is exactly the aim of “The Real Housewives of Abu Dhabi”, thank you ladies. I think it is an amazing idea to support each other in this way and I can’t wait for the next event to be announced. If you are new to the area sign up to the Facebook page and get yourselves along too, It’d be great to see you!
Have you ever moved to a different country or area and found that you have to put yourself out there to find friends? Please share your tips, it can really help others who might be struggling with their new environments or are finding themselves a little isolated.
Peace and Love
